Aurora Greenlandis by Daniel Kordan

This night in South Greenland was quite unique. Probably most intense northern lights I’ve seen in my life. You can spot a little bright light in the fjords to the right. It’s our yacht. We started the hike around 4 p.m. just received aurora forecast at kp6. Almost 4 hours took us to reach the top of the mountain. We struggled through rough terrain finding the way between granite slabs going vertically down. The wind was so strong that day! Up to 25 m/s in gusts – you can simply lay on it… Once we reached the top – no clouds. We could barely stay on our feet because of the wind. But still decided to wait hiding behind boulders. And what a gift! Just 20 minutes of strongest lights ever with deep blue and red colors dancing like mad in the sky! I still can’t understand how we managed to get still photos that night – my tripod was just flying away… And then descend in the night, 3 hours going down and down. Very tired, but happy, we finished the hike on a warm yacht with fantastic dinner and chocolate cake 🍰⛵
